Immigration Exams for Greater Birmingham


If you are applying for permanent residency (a green card), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may require you to complete a medical examination. This exam must be performed by a physician designated as a civil surgeon by USCIS. Only civil surgeons are authorized to conduct the immigration physical and complete the Form I-693, the Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record.

 

Dr. Casey Hicks, is a board certified Family Medicine Physician who provides comprehensive care to patients of all ages at the Bessemer office. Dr. Hicks also cares for patients in the inpatient setting at UAB Medical West,

With expertise in addiction medicine, Dr. Hicks specializes in treating substance use disorders, including  buprenorphine therapy for opioid addiction.

Since 2023, Dr. Hicks has  served as a USCIS-designated Civil Surgeon, conducting refugee domestic health screens and civil surgeon medical exams for immigration.

Dr. Hicks is also a core faculty member of the Cahaba-UAB Family Medicine Residency Program. He teaches and supervises both residents and medical students in clinical settings providing guidance on patient care and procedural skills. He also provides formal lectures on the topics of addiction medicine, global health, and resident well-being.
