I grew up in the small town of Ozark, AL. I earned my bachelor's degree from Troy University, Dothan and then went to VCOM in Auburn, AL to complete my medical degree. My training continued at Cahaba as part of the rural residency and then the OB fellowship program. I loved the idea of Cahaba before I matched, but the incarnation was even more than I could've asked for. It was and is a privilege to serve a rural patient population through plucky, full-scope Family Medicine alongside a team who is determined to "make a dent in the universe" everyday. My non-medical interests include watching all manner of sports (War Eagle/Go Braves/Skol), playing with my dog Sully, reading, and attempting random arts & crafts.

I grew up in Covington, LA about 1 hour north of New Orleans and went to medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans. Growing up in a rural area, I knew that I would want to live and practice rurally when I finished training. I came to Cahaba as a resident, working in Marion and Camden in clinics and J Paul Jones Hospital in Camden as part of the Frontier track. I fell in love with the Camden and Marion communities and the natural beauty of the Blackbelt and decided to stay. I have a wife Natalie and two children, Josue Jr and Jacob. We have enjoyed a warm welcome and are excited to set roots here near Camden!

I grew up in northern Florida in a small rural community called Sanderson, along the Florida-Georgia line. I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Science and a minor in Religious and Cultural Studies before earning my Master's of Medical Science from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. I remained at LECOM to earn my medical degree. I joined Cahaba as a rural family medicine resident and remained to complete our Behavioral Health Fellowship before signing on as faculty. I have a passion for mental health in primary care and the integration of behavioral health with family medicine. Cahaba has allowed me to grow exponentially in these areas and worked with me in the creation of the Behavioral Health Fellowship. Outside of the office, I enjoy reading and hosting game-night with my friends.

I grew up amidst the bayous of Monroe, Louisiana. Geaux Tigers!!! In college I wrestled with whether to pursue teaching, seminary, or medicine. A rejected Teach for America application and a seminary visit later, I chose medicine. As a 4th-year med on the cusp of committing to IM to pursue gastroenterology or geriatrics, a visit to an FQHC in Memphis changed everything. My wife and I were drawn to their model of care and commitment to community. A mentor there told me I’d be more useful as a family doctor—and I’ve been practicing family medicine with underserved communities ever since.

Since 2010, my family has practiced intentional neighboring, rooted in a small house church community and in an effort at some sort of solidarity with communities often left behind by what Dorothy Day called the “dirty rotten system.” I’ve been blessed to work alongside close friends and inspiring colleagues, and in this vocation, I’ve found a way to weave together teaching, ministry, and medicine after all!

After directing a residency in Memphis, I joined Cahaba+UAB FMR in 2018 as Director of the Urban Residency. I’m a tinkerer in our clinical learning environment, always experimenting with curriculum and faculty development. I love continuity with patients, helping younger faculty along, and hosting Tuesday night conversations on spirituality, community, vocation, and justice.

Outside of work, you’ll likely find me with my family and friends outdoors, enjoying music, or learning to play the banjo.

I'm originally from Mt. Juliet, just outside of Nashville. I went to Knoxville for undergrad at UT (the real real one) where I camped a lot and majored in Community Health. Then I went to Memphis for medical school at UTHSC where I met some of the CCHF community who encouraged me to do a summer internship at Cahaba-Urban. There, I saw people that cared about justice, loved Jesus, and practiced really good, full spectrum medicine. God used this experience to lead me to underserved primary care and I eventually decided to come back to Cahaba for residency.

I am now completing a fellowship in Ultrasound and Global Health through the UAB Emergency Department while staying on at Cahaba in our Fairfield clinic and as Urban faculty. I'm passionate about POCUS, inpatient medicine, and resident education. Outside of work, I enjoy playing and watching sports, anything outdoors, and traveling.
