FAMILY MEDICINE OBSTETRICS WITH SURGICAL QUALIFICATIONS (FM-OB-SQ)
Are you looking for relevant, hands-on, continuing education in this increasingly critical field?
Unlike other developed countries, maternal mortality is on the rise in the United States. Since 2005, 181 rural hospitals have closed throughout the country. In the state of Alabama, seven rural hospitals closed their doors, and the Alabama Hospital Association has warned that more than a dozen additional hospitals are at immediate risk of closing.
In 1980, 45 of Alabamaís 54 rural counties had hospitals providing obstetrical services. Today, only 16 of them offer such care. In a similar trend, 44% of Family Physicians provided obstetrical service in the 1980s; but today, only 17% deliver babies, and even fewer have surgical Cesarean capabilities.
