Homeless Healthcare Outreach at Firehouse Ministries Homeless Shelter
Earlier this year, Cahaba Medical Care launched a new healthcare outreach program for the homeless population at the Firehouse Ministries Homeless Shelter. This comprehensive program aims to provide high-quality medical care and support services to the shelter's residents and the surrounding homeless community, addressing the unique healthcare needs of this underserved population.
The Homeless Healthcare Outreach program will focus on the following key areas:
Preventative Care: Cahaba Medical Care will offer routine check-ups, screenings, and vaccinations to ensure that the shelter's residents are protected from common health issues.
Mental Health Services: In collaboration with local mental health professionals, Cahaba Medical Care will provide therapy, counseling, and psychiatric services to help address the mental health challenges that often accompany homelessness.
Substance Abuse Treatment: To combat the issue of substance abuse, Cahaba Medical Care will provide access to addiction treatment services, including counseling and support groups.
Chronic Disease Management: The program will offer ongoing support to individuals suffering from chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
Dental Care: In partnership with local dental providers, Cahaba Medical Care will offer dental screenings and treatments, ensuring that oral health is not neglected.
Cahaba Medical Care's Homeless Healthcare Outreach program is an extension of its commitment to providing quality healthcare to all members of the community, regardless of their socioeconomic status. By partnering with Firehouse Ministries Homeless Shelter, Cahaba Medical Care aims to create a supportive and compassionate environment where the homeless population can receive the care they need.
"By launching this healthcare outreach program, we hope to make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve," said Dr. John Waits, CEO of Cahaba Medical Care. "Our goal is to show love to our neighbors dealing with homelessness and empower these individuals to live healthier, more stable lives."
The Homeless Healthcare Outreach program began on May 1, 2023, and is supported by a dedicated team of medical professionals from Cahaba Medical Care, along with local mental health, dental, and addiction treatment providers.
