Wilcox County Community Fun Day
On Saturday, August 8th, Cahaba Medical Care hosted its Annual Wilcox County Community Fun Day & Back to School Bash in Camden. Braving a heat index of 112 degrees, more than 100 people were in attendance, including Alabama State Senator Robert Stewart, Jr. (D-23). Many community partners donated door prizes and set up at the event, including Alabama Home Care, ATRC Area Agency on Aging, Bama Kids, UAB Sanitation Health Program, UAB WCACHIL, United Healing for Rural and Global Health, Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce, Wilcox County DHR, and Wilcox Health and Rehab Center LLC. School supplies were donated by Cahaba Medical Care and International Paper.
Senator Stewart addressed the crowd to thank them for their support and emphasized the importance of access to healthcare in rural communities. He noted that the State of Alabama has invested $800,000 to support the Cahaba + UAB Family Medicine Residency Program Frontier Track, whose second-year residents are now training in Wilcox County.
Health screenings for hypertension and diabetes were conducted by Cahaba residents, faculty, and the Camden clinical staff. Attendees also enjoyed Jamaican-American wraps and chips provided by Wrap It Up Catering, shaved ice from Soul Cool Shaved Ice, and music provided by DJ Artizzle.
We appreciate our community partners and staff who helped make this event successful!
