Dr. A is a graduate of the Cahaba Family Medicine Residency, current Global Health Fellow, and 4-year attendee of the Global Missions Health Conference (GMHC).
What is the Cahaba Global Health Fellowship? The Cahaba Family Medicine Global Health Fellowship is a one-year post-residency fellowship that aims to train family medicine physicians who wish to devote much of their clinical practice to international medicine. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, fellows will have obtained a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (through the UAB Gorgas Course), and be eligible to sit for the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene CTropMed exam for a certificate in tropical medicine.
The fellowship also includes a spiritual development curriculum. The goal of this component is to first encourage the fellow to grow in their faith and obedience to Jesus Christ. It will also help the fellow grow in their commitment to love and serve people all over the world and will help them learn to integrate the practice of medicine and their faith.
What year did you attend GMHC? I have attended GMHC for 4 years in a row 2018-2021.
What is one thing you learned from your experience at GMHC? Everytime I go to GMHC my vision is broadened on how medicine can be used to advance care for all peoples in different parts of the world.
What is one way your experience at GMHC has impacted your career here at Cahaba? Each conference has led to connections and conversations that have ultimately impacted how I have planned and executed my mission month opportunities and has sharpened and fine-tuned my future vision as a global health provider. Each conference feels like a homecoming event in a way, getting to reconnect with people in other areas of the country or world who are like-minded and it is encouraging to hear how God is speaking to them and to be mutually built up as we dream about future plans together.
Why would you recommend GMHC to others? It is THE conference to network with Kingdom minded medical professionals to be encouraged, inspired, and directed into better ways to engage the world with the hope of the gospel using healthcare as a tool to accomplish this.
